Examples of My Past Commissions

“Aiona Flamewind” (Guild Wars 2 Video Game Character) Acrylics on Canvas, 78cm (W) x 58cm (H) by Alina Shirley

“I was amazed by Alina’s rendition of Aiona Flamewind, my Charr elementalist from Guild Wars 2. The little details were beautifully captured, and I really loved the dreamlike touch to the whole piece. It was so exciting to see my favourite character immortalised like this!”

— Eddie, Owner of “Aiona Flamewind”

“Halo” (Video Game), Acrylics on Canvas, 132cm (W) x 66cm (H) by Alina Shirley

I have always admired Alina's talent when it comes to painting landscapes. Out of all types of artwork, nothing sparks my imagination like placing myself into foreign environments the picture conveys. In combination with my passion for the Halo game series. It was an obvious choice to commsion Alina to paint the ringworld that started my love of science fiction. After sending her countless reference images and long winded explanations of what this alien landscape inspires. She has created my own little window onto the halo Ring, and it captures that same sense of wonder beautifully. I greatly appreciate this commision. It remains as one of my most prized processions. It now proudly hangs in my home. Those who may not understand its background could still enjoy this work.

— Brendan, Owner of “Halo”

“Rise like a phoenix,” Acrylics on Canvas, 51cm (W) x 40cm (H)

A boyfriend commissioned this artwork for his girlfriend as a graduation present. The phoenix was to symbolise rising above the hard challenges of studies and going free into the world. He cheers her on in this picture as she shines. This artwork was his original idea, and when he gave it to her as a surprise, she loved it very much.

Santorini by the sea, Acrylics on Canvas, 132cm (W) x 66cm (H) by Alina Shirley

In a landscape painting, the eye is drawn from the sweeping theme of place, to the smallest of details hinted at by as little as a single brush stroke. It is an open window upon another world, one where the viewer takes scope and detail as a whole and asks themself why: Why has the painter chosen this place? Why has the painter chosen to convey the themes and details they have? And, perhaps more importantly, what lies beyond the frame? What don't we see that we might imagine?

These are the questions that transport us to the world conveyed within the canvas, and have drawn me to the landscape genre.

When Alina and I were discussing her work one day, it occurred to me that I might commission a piece of her. She had already dabbled in the landscape genre, with works such as Mt Maslow and Piano is a Rose Garden conveying landscapes as secondary to those themes she had chosen to explore. In these pieces, Alina's surrealist, dream-like style transports - kaleidoscopic colour swirls like breeze wrought visible. It is difficult to come away from these pieces without a wistfulness to experience our own world in such splendour. I knew that she would bring this same vibrancy to the kind of piece I had in mind.

Alina had recently travelled to Santorini. With the bright Mediterranean and gorgeous lime-washed streets still fresh in her mind, she chose this place as her inspiration. And she did not disappoint. I find myself gazing at it often, wondering whether I might step through and find myself wondering those same narrow, meandering passageways; the bells tolling as the the late afternoon sun glints off the calm waves in the the straight between the islands of Santorini and her daughter islands Nea Kameni and Thirasia.

This piece transports. I am proud to have commissioned it, and I am proud of Alina for having painted it. Thank you for your gift.

— Tarquin, Owner of “Santorini by the Sea”

These painting are better than the original photographs they are based off. Alina’s unique lines, colour and style connect my imagination and memories to the time, place, age and wonder of when the moment was captured. I am grateful for the care Alina took in creating these paintings as they hold a special place in my life and home.

— Renae, Owner of her travel series

  • Consider if you want a painting on canvas or a work on paper. I do pastels and gouache and mixed media for paper. I do oils and acrylic for canvas. Best to look at my artworks to get an understanding of the mediums. Please note the chosen medium will impact a time and cost estimate.

  • If the work is intended as a gift and you want if for a certain date and time (e.g. a birthday) please let me know. Knowing more about things your special person likes and cares about will help me make this artwork better for them.

  • I require lots of time for perfection, so notice is preferable 3 months before. However, I need to understand if there is a date you need the artwork for. Also, what your expectations are around the timing, so we can agree on a realistic timeframe. Finally. It depends on what artwork you want as to how long it can take. In general, larger pieces with high detail need more time (approx. 3 months or more), than small pieces with less detail (approx. 1 month or a week).

Please note, I am willing to work out a payment plan that best suits your needs and requirements with you. It is important you are confident committing to a payment plan. Commissions can cost a lot of money, and therefore paying in full up front is not required. However, I will require deposit up front of 20%.
