In the struggle for freedom against destiny... "Maybe the target nowadays is not to discover what we are, but to refuse what we are." (Foucault, 1982, the Subject and Power) I decided to have some fun with philosophy, painting, and the fabric of existence. The girl (Sub-conscious) is fighting against the forces of everyday life that shape her and mould her against her will. She struggles to break the ties of destiny. The spider (Deserie) represents destiny spinning webs people are stuck in by design, like tree-paths in decision making that give the illusion of choice and forcing people to conform. Sub-Conscious is brave and strong and will never stop fighting and struggling for her freedom. She struggles to break free from the spider, and in this struggle she is free.
